Toolkit for interviewing by e-mail

This new toolkit (from the Realities centre) is based on Lucy Gibson’s experiences of using email interviews as part of her mixed-method study exploring the meaning of music in the lives of older music fans in three different ‘scenes’. Email interviewing proved to be a useful approach for collecting musical life histories in the fans’ own words, allowing respondents flexibility in the timing, type and length of their replies. The toolkit also considers some of the practical as well as methodological issues: Lucy points out that email interviewing reduces travel time and costs to zero.
