Career planning for research staff

Those of you who are currently in the process of looking for a job or who are coming to the end of a contract any time soon might find the Association of Graduate Careers Advisory Service’ publication, University Researchers and the Job Market useful.

It covers three main areas –

  1. Planning your career (how to decide what type of career to pursue, how to research options, how to reflect on your skills),
  2. How to increase your chances of getting a job (by improving your application and CV, as well as performing better at interview and assessment centres) and
  3. The support that is on offer (including a section on resources and sources for further support)

The booklet should be helpful to you whatever stage you’re at – whether you’re fairly certain that academia is for you and want some tips on how to get a permanent job, or if you’re not sure about what your next step might be.
