Moving out of academia – can you come back?

In the current economic climate it may be more appealing than ever to move out of the (generally) insecure world of contract research and into a different field. However, if your heart lies in academia, it’s worth considering whether the skills that you might gain would compensate for the research (and teaching) time lost. In short – if you leave, do you have the opportunity to come back, even if you only go so far as HE admin or Research Management?

A recent post on one of Inside Higher Ed blogs addresses this question (albeit from a US perspective). To read the full post, go to http://www.insidehighered.com/blogs/confessions_of_a_community_college_dean/ask_the_administrator_hybrid_positions#Comments
